Five more social facilities in Ukraine have become energy independent

The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation has installed solar power stations at five critical and social infrastructure facilities as part of the project Renewable Energy for a Resilient Ukraine. This initiative is being implemented by a consortium of NGOs in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German government.

This project is particularly relevant given the ongoing russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which force communities to seek alternative solutions to ensure a stable power supply. Renewable energy sources not only offer a lifeline during power outages but also provide an opportunity for environmentally friendly and modern recovery and development.

The facilities equipped with solar power stations include a healthcare institution in Rivne region, a school in Khmelnytskyi region, and three municipal facilities in Kyiv, Kirovohrad, and Vinnytsia regions.

The installed stations will help communities save on electricity bills, enabling them to redirect funds toward other pressing needs. Additionally, solar power aligns with environmental goals and the vision for Ukraine's green transition. Over the next 25 years, these stations will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, supporting the principles of sustainable development.

The Foundation’s mission is to foster a conscious generation and cultivate a Ukrainian society that respects the planet and its resources. Alongside building solar power stations, training local specialists, and conducting community outreach, the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation launched an educational course for children in Rivne and Khmelnytskyi regions. The 1.5-month course includes four interactive sessions where children learn about solar, thermal, mechanical, and electrical energy and explore the basics of sustainable development.

"Five more social facilities in Ukraine have gone solar, and this is a victory not only for these communities but for the entire country. These projects symbolize hope, demonstrating how Ukraine finds light for its future even in the darkest times. We believe such initiatives are crucial for every community, and I am sincerely grateful to all our partners and colleagues for their support and collaboration. Together, we are creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly world for future generations", said Yuliana Onishchuk, founder and director of the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation.

The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation is a partner in the «Renewable Energy for a Resilient Ukraine» project, executed by GIZ on behalf of the German government. GIZ, the German Agency for International Cooperation, is responsible for implementing various initiatives commissioned by the German government. One such initiative is the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The project is carried out by a consortium of NGOs, including the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation, Ecoclub, Ecoaction, and RePower Ukraine.
