Gostomel is a city that has become a symbol of resilience and fortitude during the Russian aggression. Local educational institutions also suffered significant damage, including Gostomel Lyceum No. 1. But despite all the difficulties, the school is being rebuilt, and we are proud to announce that a new hybrid solar power plant now adorns its roof!
This power plant is not just an energy solution, but a step towards a sustainable and independent future. The lyceum currently has 700 students, and the installation of the solar power plant solves one of its key problems - frequent power outages that lasted 4-6 hours a day. Thanks to the new system, the lyceum will be able to operate smoothly even during blackouts, providing comfortable conditions for learning and working.
The new system consists of:
54 PV modules with a total capacity of 24.3 kW,
a 50 kW hybrid inverter,
a storage with a capacity of 41.6 kWh.
This configuration will power all three floors of the school and the shelter, providing lighting in the classrooms and the ability to use the necessary equipment for a quality educational process in any conditions.
The project is part of our 100SolarSchools campaign, which aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the school during outages, while ensuring the continuity of the learning process.
This support is part of the efforts to restore and strengthen resilience in Ukraine as part of the German government's implementation programmes, such as the Stabilisation Platform and GIZ Renewables for Resilient Ukraine (R2U).
Octopus Energy is also a partner of our foundation in this project, supporting initiatives to install renewable energy systems and energy storage systems in schools and hospitals across Ukraine.
This initiative not only ensures the energy independence of the lyceum, but also symbolises the revival of the community and creates new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian children. Gostomel Lyceum No. 1 is becoming an example of how sustainability and innovation can ensure a better future for all of us.
